The USERN Congress 2017

International Scientific USERN Congress to be held in Kharkiv on November 8-10

Hosted by Kharkiv National Medical University, Ukraine

The second Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN) Congress will be held in Kharkiv on November 8-10.

Natalia Kufterina, the Chairperson of the Council of Young Scientists at Kharkiv Regional State Administration, said this at a press conference, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The congress is held under the patronage of Chairperson of Kharkiv Regional State Administration Yulia Svitlychna, who is the initiator of its conduction in Kharkiv. The congress participants represent various directions of science, including physics, biology, medicine.

The main goal of the congress is the communication of young scientists with the world's leading scientists: Evan Eichler - Professor of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington, Daniel Pauly - biologist who is studying human impacts on global fisheries and is the principal investigator at the Sea Around Us Project (Canada), Markus Fischer – Professor of Food Chemistry at the University of Hamburg," Kufterina said.

She also added that lectures and discussions with the participation of scientists will take place at four Kharkiv universities: Karazin National University, National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”, National University of Pharmacy and National Medical University

The opening session will be held at Premier Palace Hotel Kharkiv on November 8, the closing session – at Karazin National University on November 10.

KhPI Joines the Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN)

The scientists of National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” participated in the II Congress held by the Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN). This event united the best scientists from Ukraine, USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, Great Britain and Slovenia engaged in physics, sociology, medicine, etc. Among them were the laureates of Nobel and Abel Prizes. The Congress was held within the framework of the Science Week initiated by Yuliya Svitlychna, the governor of the Kharkiv Region and was timed to coincide with the World Science Day.
From 8 to 10 of November, leading foreign and Ukrainian scientists presented their reports, participated in the seminars and panel discussions. Among eminent guests — Prof. Markus Fischer, an expert in the field of food chemistry from the Hamburg University, he is also the author of about 300 scientific publications; Professor Evan Eichler studying the human genetics, in particular he studies the evolution of human genome and the role of it in the diseases.

During the USERN Congress, NTU “KhPI” became one of the five scientific platform for the lectures and discussions with the participation of eminent scientists. On November 9, Daniel Pauly (Canada), Maria Magdalena Titirici (Great Britain) and Saboura Ashkevarian (Iran) visited KhPI.

Foreign scientists had a meeting at KhPI. The participants from KhPI: Yevgen Sokol, Rector of NTU “KhPI”; Gennadiy Khrypunov, Vice-rector for Scientific-and-Pedagogical Work; Andriy Marchenko, Vice-rector for Scientific-and-Research Work; Oleksandr Goncharov, chief of the International Relations Department; associate professor Roman Tomashevsky, PhD, head of the Board of Young Scientists of KhPI; Oleksiy Larin,  Prof. from the Department for Machine Strength and Dynamics

Plenary Lecture by Prof. Dr. Markus Fischer

The global food value chain – Systemic strategies for food authentication (Wednesday, November 08, 2017)

Worldwide, food fraud most commonly affects goods such as olive oil, fish and organic foods, as well as commodities such as spices, tea, cocoa, coffee or nuts. Globally, revenue from counterfeit or adulterated raw materials and foods amounts to tens of billions of Euros every year. This figure highlights the fact that the quality control strategies practiced to date are unequal to the problem. Compared to centuries past, contemporary challenges are therefore considerably more complicated and, due to the global material cycles now in place, include determining the commodity type (e.g. variety), identifying the exact geographical origin (e.g. to verify a product as a regionally-protected food) and distinguishing between specific types of production (ecological and sustainable vs. conventional agriculture).

The talk is going to give insights on state-of-the art approaches to experimentally cover the originality of food starting materials.

Lecture by Prof. Dr. Markus Fischer

The evolution of vitamin B2 biosynthesis (Thursday, November 09, 2017)

Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is biosynthesized from GTP and ribulose 5-phosphate. Whereas the early reactions show significant taxonomic variation, the subsequent reaction steps are universal in all taxonomic kingdoms. All enzymes of the pathway have been characterized in some detail at the structural and mechanistic level. Some of the pathway enzymes have exceptionally complex structures and reaction mechanisms. The commercial production of the vitamin is now entirely based on highly productive fermentation processes mainly in Bacillus subtilis. Due to their absence in animals, the pathway enzymes are potential targets for the development of novel anti-infective drugs.

The talk is going to give an overview about recent advances in riboflavin biosynthesis.

Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN)

The Congress has been established with main purpose of peaceful and humanitarian promotion of education and research, universally. The theme of the Congress will be “Science without borders”, emphasizing important role of multidisciplinary studies without geographical borders! Therefore different aspects of science have been covered in the scientific program, which would be presented by top scientists worldwide.

Kharkiv National Medical University with the assistance of Kharkiv University Consortium is honored to provide the Festival for all the participants to foster international dissemination of innovative researches and to exchange experiences.
The Congress’s theme is holding meetings and discussion sessions on different scientific fields: medical, social, formal, biochemical and physical sciences.
