The superordinate aim of the HSFS is the creation of an internationally competitive and visible research platform to increase the knowledge of food science and adjoining subjects.

A special stress lies on the extensive and interdisciplinary study of the topic “Food Safety” from farm to fork.

The system is receptive to the development of new concepts and methods as well as to co-operative research projects both in the field of basic and applied research and is not restricted to the University of Hamburg.
